We are watching out!…and apologizing

Category: carbofuran | Date: Feb 26 2009 | By: Martin Odino

Apologies dear readers for not posting for quite sometime. I must say my fieldwork had stalled but I am back now and will be posting regularly once again. I am currently out in Busia at Bunyala rice scheme. I just began on a project to measure the conservation threat of Furadan to birds (and also people). I am trying to work with the hunters(those poisoning birds) and also trying to establish what immediate effects those eating the poisoned birds feel or experience.

While I should be able to give you more detailed updates in time, this is what two of my assistants and myself  are currently doing:

While watching out last evening we saw the hunter above carrying his complete poisoning gear!A club to maim disoriented birds under the influence of Furadan;a sack containing a captive bird(most likely an Open-billed Stork) to call others to Furadan-laced bait and a jerry can in which are Furadan-laced bait(snails). I spoke to him and will be meeting him before I end this reconaissance.

Will keep you posted on more on this project.
